Like the authoer was trying to show how ruthless all of the past H/H were. Sometimes I had to wonder who was saying what. Come to think about it. It was too talky, to psycho analytical on the part of the hero and altogether too combative.
This was my first book by this writer and I guess I should have looked at the reviews before I started reading it. After that wedding night scene I just put the book down. The whole wedding intro was too combative. As another poster stated, there are a lot of characters from other books in this stories which was confusing.
I just wanted them to get it over with already. I will try getting some of her earlier works and see how I like them but this one left me board. I could not get with the authors writing style. But what really made me put his book down was the near 30 page wedding night scene.
Her books are erotica (with an actual story). To top off that she has a smooth and eye-catching style of writing, oh, and HOT too. at it's best. I love Sarah McCarty. I can't find many authors that are writing in the western historical genre at the moment.
I am totally disappointed by the loss of the hot love scenes that are quite honestly the reason that I keep coming back to Sarah McCarty's books. Publishers like Ellora's Cave just give authors the freedom to be very erotically explicit.
But now that I know how much more erotic & fulfilling her books can be I just found myself a bit let down & disappointed. If I had never read any of SM's books before, than Promises Reveal would have sat with me just fine.
I wanted to give this book 5 stars but I just can't. Unfortunately I think that if Berkley stays the publisher the books & writing style that I have come to love will be a thing of the past.
My issues with the love scenes in this book aside I still think that Sarah McCarty is a wonderful author. Sarah's books really have lost a lot of their steam if this book is one to judge by.
After the first book of hers that I read I went & got every one of her books that I could get my hands on.
It draws you in with great humor between characters and continues throughout the storyline. A wonderfully written story that has action in a wonderful time.
this was a pretty good book--not mccarty's best but the preacher was hot and the reluctant/rebelious bride make a fun couple-- the dialogue in mccarty's books are amazing--
